The 3rd quarter has been a hard fought battle of field position and defense. Both offense have failed to convert key third down conversions and gain any significant type of momentum. Northwestern's had their best opportunity of the quarter with their second drive where 3 penalties equating to 30 yards of total yards lost spoiled the Wildcats' chances. Northwestern also saw the return of Mike Kafka under center with a hand injury suffered by Dan Persa, leaving Persa doubtful for the rest of the game. Northwestern leads 14-10.
