From woodwinds and brass, to pianos and cellos, and even a harmonica or two, Northwestern's musical talent performed at the first-ever Music Marathon. The 26-hour charity concert featured all genres of music and brought together musicians from all across the Northwestern community. Production and Logistics Coordinator Billy Robin, said "There's actually one string quintent that had ... and undergraduate in Bienen, a graduate in Bienen, a non-major, an alumnus and a community member - and that's kind of the epitome of what music marathon was all about." Students, faculty, and alumni purchased time slots to perform, raising more than $15,000, $5,000 more than the original goal. Proceeds will go to The People's Music School, an organization that provides tuition-free music lessons to inner-city Chicago youth. The event kicked off at eight Friday night at Regenstein Hall and concluded with the Northwestern Chamber Orchestra performance here at Pick-Staiger Saturday evening. Robin added, "It [Music Marathon] will definitely happen next year. Its gonna be bigger, I don't know how yet, but it will."
