No impeachment for Weinberg junior Muhammad Safdari.
Safdari will keep his position as ASG Academic Director.
The ASG Rules Committee voted unanimously to reject the articles of impeachment filed against him last week.
"Obviously I'm happy and relieved about the decision” Safdari said. “I think once we took two weeks off and everyone now looked at what happened, I think a clearer picture of the truth emerged.”
The articles accused Safdari of hurting the integrity of ASG and unfairly influencing the presidential and vice-presidential run-off election.
The Rules Committee’s majority opinion called Safdari’s behavior “reproachable” and “unbecoming of an elected official.” But they decided that although regrettable, his actions were not impeachable.
“Muhammad is still fully capable of performing his duties and collaborating with both the student body and University administrators to preserve and advance the academic interests of Northwestern undergraduates,” their official statement says.
To impeach Safdari, at least three of the five committee members would have to have voted in favor of the articles.
The committee did not decide on any other reprimand against Safdari. Parliamentarian Grace Adamson said such action, if desired, would have to be brought up by the senate.
