The tough economy affects all types of businesses. But it's the little guy that's being forced to close its doors. The Italian Coffee Bar shut down its Church Street location.
Italian Coffee Bar Owner Christopher Casas says the economy is partly to blame.
"I'm sure the economy had a little bit to do with it, but there are other factors -- just wasn't enough foot traffic, not enough people buying coffee, or people actually coming in. It had been slow over there since November of last year. We tried to keep it going, so for the betterment of the company, we decided to close that one."
Many people were hoping last week's election would give the economy a boost. As President-Elect Obama prepares to take office, the hardest hit businesses are hesitant to expect major changes.
Beck's Bookstore Manager, Natalie Kasputis, says, "We still need to be cautious, you know, it's not going to happen overnight."
Chris adds, "I think it's going to take some time for any stimulus plan to take effect and the small guy is going to feel it even worse. It's going to take a lot longer and I think unfortunately, a lot more businesses are going to close."
The Italian Coffee Bar will continue to serve coffee and gelato at its Sherman and Grove shop.
