SportsNight, a weekly sports recap and highlight show about the Northwestern Wildcats and the Big Ten Conference, is the first place winner of a College Emmy Award (College Television Award) in the Best Newscast category, presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The College Television Awards Gala was held on March 15 at The Culver Studios in Los Angeles, Calif. The Gala was hosted by Tom Bergeron of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."

First place carries a cash prize of $2,000.

SportsNight will also be featured on mtvU, a campus television station available on NUTV and other college campus cable providers.

"SportsNight is the result of a lot of different people's contributions," said SportsNight producer Patrick Lester. "The show only works because of its exceptional staff."

"Winning an Emmy was incredible recognition for all the hours and work we put into SportsNight," said SportsNight anchor and sports director Carl Deffenbaugh. "And the fact that a bunch of sports guys won the newscast division was even sweeter!"

"It didn't feel real until I was standing on that stage and even then it was a stretch," said SportsNight anchor and sports director Henry Rosoff. "I didn't want to let go of the trophy and I kept thinking, 'This is what those guys we cover get to feel like all the time, or at least when they win.'"

SportsNight is a show that is completely produced by students of Northwestern University. It is part of the Northwestern News Network, and supported by the Medill School of Journalism. This is the first time that SportsNight has won a College Television Award. It was recently a finalist for a College Broadcasters Inc. award.

SportsNight can be seen on demand at NNNTV.org or on Evanston Cable channel 6 at 10 p.m. on Thursdays.
